Founded by Susanne Kirchmayr (Electric Indigo) in 1998 as an international network of female, transgender and non-binary artists working in the fields of electronic music and digital arts, female:pressure is now a worldwide resource of talent. Marking its 20th year, the network comprises 2200 members in 75 countries. Since 2013, female:pressure has been publishing the FACTS Survey to collect data on the gender ratio of artists performing at high profile international electronic music festivals. Their own Perspectives festival was also launched that year to showcase female musicians.
In her symposium keynote, Electric Indigo recaps the impetus and history of the network, its statistical findings, its festival and points her ears and eyes to the future.
Corina MacDonald (aka CMD), one of Montréal’s female:pressure members, takes the relay and joins Kirchmayr for a conversation that delves into her own experiences as an artist and activist.
This event takes place in English.
For those of you not able to attend in person, we invite you to be at the symposium by connecting to the live stream.
