Full MUTEK.MX 2012 Festival Program Revealed!

Featuring more than 35 local and international artists, the next edition of the MUTEK.MX will take place in less than three weeks, October 1 – 7, in various venues in Mexico City. Thanks to notable collaborations with Sony, numerous sponsors, cultural institutions, media partners, and collaborators, MUTEK.MX is able to present its largest and most diverse edition since the festival landed in Mexico, in 2003, with more than 20 events spread over 7 days.
True to the spirits of all MUTEK festivals, the MUTEK.MX 2012 lineup highlights a mix of vanguard artists currently at the top of their field, as well as lesser-known acts that are garnering increasing praise. The 7 day festival, filled with compelling audiovisual acts and diverse musical offerings, all within the unique and bustling setting that is Mexico City, also includes notable participation from local, Mexican artists, as part of the organization’s mandate to foster Mexico’s fledgling digital arts culture and propel it onto an international stage.

Aside from the signature audiovisual and nighttime programs that comprise the festival’s program for many years now, MUTEK.MX will also feature three special series, two of which are new to this edition.
CIRCUITO, during one evening, visitors will get a chance to sample a variety of Mexico City’s most prestigious nightclubs, including events at MN Roy, AM Club, Rhodesia, Leonor and Rioma.
The festival also includes it first-ever film series, CICLO, presented at the Cine Tonalá theatre. The series includes DEMDIKE STARE’s soundtrack re-imagination of Jean Rollin’s LA VAMPIRE NUE, as well as the premiere of FREEDOM, a documentary about the first 9 years of MUTEK in México, co-produced by Sony, Colours and Brutal Inc Films. Screenings of WE DON’T CARE ABOUT MUSIC ANYWAY (Cédric Dupire, Gaspard Kuentz) HIGH ON HOPE (Pier Sanderson), THE BALLAND OF GENESIS and LADY JAYE (Marie Losier) and WILD COMBINATION (Matt Wolf) will be rounded-out by surprise concerts, announced the same day as the screenings.
Finally, various workshops and professional activities will take place as part of the recurring INTERSECCIÓN series at the Centro de Cultura Digital Estela de Luz.

Over 60% of the MUTEK.MX program is offered free of charge! In keeping with this spirit of accessibility, none of the festival’s paid programs exceed $200MXN+tax (approx 12euro or 15USD), and the entire festival can be enjoyed for under $1,200MXN (approx 72euro or 92USD), facilitating access for locals as well as visitors to take in the entire festival experience! Furthermore, key sections of the festival website are now available in English, including program and tourism info, making it easier than ever for out-of-country visitors to join in this unique festival celebration.
