Andy Stott creates an affective gravity in his music that both punishes and rewards the mind and body. A prolific artist, the Manchester based Stott has released over 20 recordings through the community minded Modern Love label since 2006 and consistently plays live, including at several past MUTEK showcases. In his recent music, Stott pairs field recordings and found sounds with an array of instruments, all given an intense analog treatment. Evolving from the bass heavy and aggressively emotive EPs, Passed Me By and We Stay Together in 2011, Stott’s 2012 album, Luxury Problems, garnered breakthrough-level accolades for its intriguing instrumentation, warped rhythms and breathy, pop-like vocals. After collaborating on a more dance-oriented jungle-techno album with Demdike Stare's Miles Whittaker as Mille & Andrea (also appearing at MUTEK 2015), Stott delves further into the industrial borderlands of pop on his 2014 album Faith in Strangers, once again featuring layered dream-state vocals by Alison Skidmore. This crossover effect has won him new fans and bolstered long-time listeners, spurring not only critical accolades but a series of sold-out shows, including at 2014’s MUTEK Mexico and MUTEK Spain. After a live performance in 2013, Stott returns to MUTEK Montréal with his newest live set. In collaboration with Convergence festival with the support of the Québec government and the British Council.
