Pairing a deeply considered and expressive artistic approach with high-tech digital synthesis networks and modular instrument design, Lucas Paris creates multi-sensory, immersive and emotional new forms of audiovisual performance.
An emerging artist in digital arts and electronic music, Paris has built digital instruments for more then 10 years in the pursuit of sculpting and engineering intangible sound and light in real time. Driven by a search for constant change rather than comforts of routine, Paris records raw musical expression, restructures, augments and polishes it into final tracks open to a live improvisation process. A creative and collaborative coder, Paris also studied digital music and digital instrument making at Université de Montréal and has collaborated on multi-artist electroacoustic and audiovisual performance projects Quadr and Betafeed.
Live, Paris presents recent results of algorithmic research in a sensory physical and textural, socio-politically resonant performance. His light and sound-sculpting A/V work AntiVolume IN/EXT explores the constant motions and dynamics between timbre and colour, interior and exterior, reinterpreting ambient noise, techno tropes and rave-ish rhythms.
