Like her transformative, sensorially engulfing Mutual Dreaming parties, Aurora Halal's music pushes boundaries and mesmerizes in a bold quest for both experimentation and intimacy. Hypnotic beats, sustained tones and otherworldly vocals meld into a melodic electro progression, intentionally seeking states of slipperiness, energy, alienation, redemption and bliss.

Halal's hardware-based multiform sounds slip from smooth, intricate techno to dark, hypnotic bass lines and plush reverb on her solo debut, Passageway. Collaborative feats of deep, almost ambient techno tracks made with Ital and her earlier vivid hypno-disco project Innergaze, contort into Halal's solo honing of her own club-oriented, acid techno-house grooves, an uncommon churning chorus of dynamic rhythm and analogue melody. Also a visual artist with a background in art history and computer science, she's directed experimental music videos, documentaries about modular synth godfather Morton Subotnick and Ceephax Acid Crew, and blends fluid, colourful analog VHS and DV video with found visuals for live music sets for others. Halal's passion for the challenging and mercurial in music and art compelled her to create more space in the world for it: Mutual Dreaming and her festival Sustain-Release gather idiosyncratic artists and audiences in order to explore the immediacies and intimacies of music for mind and body.

Halal arrives in Montréal hot off extensive international touring (Unsound, Atonal, Berghain and more). Live, her sets tingle and throb, and her reputation as a master of techno's real-time, transportive powers really does precede her.
