Happy holidays from the MUTEK team!
Even though we're heading into winter here in Montreal, things are only heating up at MUTEK HQ. On the programming side, we'd like to thank everyone that submitted a proposal for the 2011 edition. The sheer diversity of projects received has given us much to explore for the upcoming festival.
We're pleased to officially announce that MUTEK will be setting up its 12th edition headquarters at the Society for Arts and Technology (SAT), which will be emerging from a massive renovation project with a whole new infrastructure including Pixiness, a permanent interactive installation covering the SAT's facade, new spaces for artist residencies, an improved main floor venue for concerts and events, and a top floor dome for 360 immersive audio-visual performances (the Satosphere) accompanied by a culinary laboratory.
Renovations aside, a whole other layer of energy will be surrounding our HQ, as the SAT will be celebrating its 15th anniversary on June 5, 2011. To mark this momentous occasion, the SAT will be hosting an array of events and activities as part of a 15 day countdown, starting with local-scale celebrations. The countdown will then head into MUTEK's 12th edition, June 1 - 5, 2011, which will launch the international level celebrations at the heart of the SAT . We look forward to taking part in celebrating this momentous anniversary which will undoubtedly generate an incredible energy and momentum during the weeks leading up to MUTEK as well as during the festival itself.
And there's more! The festival's weekend also overlaps with a second equally important anniversary - 5 years since Montreal was designated as a UNESCO City of Design. Plans are already under way to produce an event in partnership with Design Montreal, thus blending their celebrations into the MUTEK festival at the SAT.
All of these events are sure to lead to the convergence of a large local and international community that will transcend MUTEK's already diverse audience in 2011. Throw in the whole new range of perspectives offered by the SAT's revamped infrastructure as well as the multiple anniversary celebrations that will be incorporated into the festival, and you have a 12th edition that is sure to be unique, if not the most memorable, dynamic and eclectic MUTEK yet.
Don't forget to confirm your presence at MUTEK 2011 and spread the word!
