With meticulous attention to detail, Line Katcho hybridizes styles, genres and applied tech methods to craft prismatic, enveloping electroacoustic-techno compositions and visual landscapes.
Line Katcho's artistry spans minimalist acousmatic compositions, audiovisual creations (including mind-altering visuals under her VJ moniker La Hyèna) and film music, often approaching sound as kinetic matter. Her forceful sonics-in-motion whop a punch while feeding back synergistically into kaleidoscopic visuals. Katcho was the artistic director of Soundwich concerts, bringing together emerging electroacoustic artists in Montréal, and recently completed a degree in electroacoustic composition at the Conservatoire de musique de Montréal. She's presented her work internationally at festivals such as Sonorities and Elektramusic, and earned first prize in the 2014 electroacoustic contest Jeux de Temps/Times Play. As part of the Kohlenstoff Records collective, she released her first two albums Pulsions and Totem Electric II, and has also collaborated with choreographer and dancer James Viveiros, the Folksinstock collective with Félix-Antoine Morin, Jean-François Blouin, Guillaume Cliche, Maxime Corbeil-Perron and videographer Karl Lemieux.
In her live audiovisual performance Immortelle at MUTEK, Katcho binds light and sound in constant, dramatic metamorphosis as she explores shifting relationships between image and music and between humans and our environments.
