Latora 4 Brazos
In its tradition of presenting the most brilliant and innovative talents worldwide, MUTEK in 2008 did the Canadian premiere of prodigious Mexican producer of melodic micro-house, Metrika.
Metrika is the stage name of Diego Cevallos and of a personality in the world of international electronic music, known for their releases on the famous label Crosstown Rebels Damian Lazarus, by remixes for Bulgur Brothers with the German label, Sunset Diskos, publications for the also German label Eintakt and multiple stamps in Mexico City.
The remixing work of Diego include several Latin Rock and Pop artists like Gustavo Cerati, Natalia Lafourcade and Motel, among others.
Metrika productions incorporate elements with great aesthetic micro-sampling, using fragments of voice recordings and the environment to build a bank of infectious rhythms and recurring platforms not unlike the work of Herbert and Akufen. In this sense, Metrika pioneered a new generation of house music-based sample that has ever had a strong echo in the house scene.
The work of Diego with his close friend Gabo (Digi + Gabo), remains a cornerstone in the Mexican electronic music. Soon they will return for a third and well anticipated album. Live, Metrika is characterized by its famous lines of subsonic bass and funky rhythms that ensure the madness in his audience.
NOCTURNE 3: BEATS, MASHES & REMIXES
CANADIAN DEBUT In keeping with its tradition of presenting the brightest new talent from around the world, MUTEK introduces Montreal to the melodic micro-house of up-and-coming Mexican producer Metrika. Metrika is the nom de plume of Diego Cevallos, a young face who has already made a serious impression on the world of international electronic music with releases on Damian Lazarus’ renowned Crosstown Rebels imprint, as well as remix work for the Bulgur Brothers on German label Sunset Diskos. To date, Cevallos’ productions have incorporated a sly sense of micro-sampling, which uses snippets of voice and field recordings to build a recurring and often infectious bed of rhythm not unlike the work of Akufen and Herbert. In this regard, Metrika is the harbinger of a new generation of sample-driven house music currently finding its way into circulation.
