WHO: Montréal multimedia artist, producer and creative director Catherine Turp
STYLE: Brightly hued, organic, urban and dreamy imagery
MORE: Co-founder of the open-air trance festival Eclipse; now a creative director with the Moment Factory
MUTEKs: Montréal: 2015

Brightly hued, organic, urban and dreamy imagery characterize the visual palette of Cafrine, with a focus on live audiovisual interaction and extra sensory enhancements. Often working with several video sources and a variety of techniques, she uses her powers to transform musical performances into next level experiences as a VJ.

Turp’s involvement in the electronic music scene runs deep – she was a co-founder and promoter of the Outaouais, Québec open-air trance festival Eclipse that started its run in 2001. As a student of film and communications, with an academic background in cultural studies and diplomas in cinematography, Cafrine was determined to marry her knowledge in video production to small and large scale events and has been a fixture locally as a resident VJ for Tech Safari and their monthly Amazone nights. Co-founder of immersive design studio Vitaminecat and Creative Director at Moment Factory, Turp is the conceptual mind behind numerous multimedia installations and live visual sets that transform artistic performances into synesthetic experiences: from extravagant Cirque du Soleil shows to music events in Montréal and internationally, including the Montréal International Jazz Festival, Igloofest, New York’s Orb, Les Francofolies and MUTEK. This year she provides the ocular environment during the festival’s closing event in the Salle BWR, accompanying LAWRENCE LE DOUX and LOCAL ARTIST.
