Simon Chioini got into music through classical percussions and a persistent study of the weird electronic music of the 90s and 00s.
He experimented on his own before undertaking studies in electroacoustic composition at the Conservatoire de musique de Montréal where he is finishing his Masters degree. There, his interests became more focused upon dense electronic sonorities and minimalistic works inspired by the everyday.
His music finds influences from both the electroacoustic music pioneers and from the contemporary underground scene. He likes to blend genres into hybridized pieces, and his practice as a DJ informs his compositional work.
As a performer, Chioini visits the intimate venues of Montréal and elsewhere. He had the opportunity to participate in some festivals and his music has been sounded in several galleries.
In 2015, he co-founded Acte, an independent label dedicated to new musical approaches.

Bolstered by a community of harmoniously experimental artists in Montréal, Simon Chioini creates a hybrid of new music compositions and genre fusing underground club sounds – acoustic instrumental flourishes and synth waves layered in syncopated rhythms and unexpected distortions. His experiments in minimalist composition tiered in techno beats have honest roots: stemming from classical percussion and a self driven study of pioneering and outlier electronic music of the 90s and 00s followed by a degree in electroacoustic composition at the Conservatoire de musique de Montréal.
Chioini co-founded and co-organizes independent music label and musician-composer-producer collective Acte with Gabriel Ledoux, Devon Hansen, Philippe Vandal and Kara-Lis Coverdale – Acte recently released a mixtape with Decoder Magazine and is involved in online radio platform n10.as Radio, inspired by Berlin Community Radio and London's NTS. He is also an advisor to the concert society Codes d’accès, an organization that promotes emerging artists in new music.
Along with shows in Montréal and New York with Coverdale and fellow ACTE artists, and in-situ concerts at Perte de signal, Eastern Bloc and other galleries and festivals, Chioini brings a new set of multi-rhythmic minimalism to MUTEK accompanied by striking live visuals.
