An intensely hued, unapologetically quirky and seriously spacey one-woman orchestra, Steinunn Harðardóttir crafts in-your-face electronic pop with an Icelandic twist. Drawing from influences as varied as J-pop, Joe Meek and early 1990s drum and bass, her electronic-horror sound boasts infectiously goofy beats, barking dog samples and animal-centric lyrics.

A polymath who sees no borders between visual art and music, DJ Flugvél Og Geimskip delivered her first rap concert—repeating the mantra “sheep in a can, sheep in can’—at the tender age of one, on her bed. That led to her first (Fischer Price) recording device at 5, paving the way for a lifetime of zany instrumental wizardry to follow. Geimskip already has three full-lengths under her belt, with the latest—2015’s Nótt Á Hafsbotni, which translates to Night At The Bottom of the Ocean—having been nominated for Best Pop Album at the Icelandic Music Awards. Her forthcoming album Our Atlantis will be accompanied by a psychedelic video game that allows players to assemble and take the reins of each of the album’s music videos.

Geimskip’s recorded output can’t quite prepare you for the live rendition, which has been described as a mischievous vivid dream and bonkers space-travel-theatre. Expect to find her as a colourful, kinetic poet on stage with her keyboards, lights, smoke, backdrop videos and gold streamer-decorated drum machines.
